People Are Missing The Point of A.I. Music
by Nathan Winthrop; 10 July, 2025
A seeming misconception of A.I music, is that A.I makes A.I music. The creation of A.I music comes from humans who can express their creativity through artificial intelligence. A.I is the vessel for expression in the same way a guitar is.

Anyone can pick up guitar and play it. What comes out of the guitar is not human sound, but is sound transmitted by humans through the instrument. The guitar provides a unique sound which can be used in a brilliant and creative way, or a poor and out of taste way.
The same goes for AI. Anyone can open their laptop and use AI to make a song. It doesn't mean the song is gonna be any good. Making a good A.I song is like making a good song on the guitar. It takes practice, technique, taste and creativity.

"The Velvet Sundown," the first big "A.I band," have created something with all those elements. The creators of the Velvet Sundown have been able to bring forth unique sound and visual which holds great character and identity: something which all the greatest artists have. With assumption, the creators of the Velvet Sundown had to spend vast amounts of time in practice with A.I songwriting and visual tools. If you go to open one of these songwriting A.I tools, like "Suno A.I," or "AIVA A.I," you'll quickly find how difficult it is to create a sound which you want, which you like, which is consistent. So, whoever created the Velvet Sundown not only had an excellent vision for what the band would sound like and look like, but they also had an adequate set of technical knowledge in order to bring their vision to life.

Furthermore, the thought that A.I is going to take over songwriters is unforeseeable. A.I will allow songwriters another vessel for their creativity if they decide to involve themselves with it. Like a guitar, A songwriter may like the sound that a guitar makes and decide to output their creativity through it. A.I is simply another technological advancement that expands the possibilities of how one can output their creativity.
